It was destiny!

As an artist who sells a variety of doodle designed items through my Typewise Whatnot Shop, I’ve been wanting to find a traditional cut puzzle maker to showcase a few of my doodle designs. While I have signed artwork licensing contracts with a few wood puzzle makers, I’d yet to find a traditional puzzle maker to feature some of my doodle designs.

Being a retired person, I’m not in a position to manufacture a whack of puzzles, then sell them from my home-based shop on Chilliwack Mountain in Canada. My husband gets a tad freaked out whenever I bring that scenario up. So I’ve been hoping to find a company that creates Print on Demand Puzzles that I can source and sell through a dedicated artist shop.

Enter Teemill.

Teemill was recommended to me from a friend in the puzzling community. Within a day, I had setup my very own Doodle Adventures puzzle store, selling challenging 1,000 piece puzzles, highlighting my offbeat and random doodling style.

While most puzzles are mass produced with single use plastic in the mix, someone somewhere needed to become the first sustainable UK puzzle supplier. Teemill decided that they should be that supplier. They used their real time manufacturing technology on a new medium, to create print on demand puzzles. And because they make the puzzles one at a time, in the seconds after they are ordered, there's no wasteful overproduction. Just what people need when they need it. This saves a lot of money, and it means Teemill can use sustainable, plant-based materials and renewable energy. And do it affordably. In surveys by major market research agencies, most consumers say they want to buy more sustainable products.

Teemill’s puzzles are manufactured with the environment in mind, using natural materials and no single use plastic. These 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzles are made from 100% recycled cardboard, using UV inks. When complete, each puzzle measures 20”x 27.5” (510 x 700mm). The puzzles are packaged in a simple brown cardboard box, with the puzzle picture and information printed on a recycled material sticker.

And Teemill ships globally from the UK… which is perfect for me, considering I’m based in Canada. International shipping costs are actually quite reasonable. And here’s something else that was really important to me personally… by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. This is bad. So instead of using plastic packaging, Teemill uses a rip and splash-proof mailer bag made out of paper. Big orders come in cardboard boxes, with paper-based tape. They use plants, not plastic. And you can reuse the packaging… or perhaps just have fun colouring all the doodles printed on it.

I’ve priced my Doodle Adventures puzzles as low as realistically possible so that everyone can enjoy them. Have a boo at my shop and let me know what you think. It’s a work in progress, so suggestions are definitely appreciated.

I’ve already ordered four samples for myself, and can’t wait to start puzzling over them the minute they arrive!

– Lori Anne McKague, Doodle Artist

PS… How could I not partner with a company that actually uses doodle drawings on their packaging!

Here’s the link to find Doodle Adventures from Typewise Design Studio… https://typewise-whatnot-shop.teemill.com/
